Emoticon blacklist (or contact menu items) should be easier to find

Reported by: sjors Owned by: fontknocker
Priority: normal Milestone: kmess-3.0
Component: GUI - Chat window Version: 2.0-beta1
Keywords: Cc:

Description

Currently, to find the emoticon blacklist from *inside* the chat window, you need to open the contact menu, click "Edit Notes", then click the Emoticons tab. That's not very intuitive. The other way is to open the Contact Properties from the chat window. I think we should make things like the emoticon blacklist and images easier to find. For example, we can add: - "Contact Properties" to the View or Edit menus - "Past contact images" to the View menu - "Blacklisted emoticons" to the View or Edit menus.

I've been checking into this and it's quite hard to do. The thing is: The chat window does not know directly who is in a chat. This makes it a lot more complicated to see if, for example, an option like "Contact Properties" should be enabled or disabled in a chat window.

I have a patch now that adds the option, and if there's only one contact in the currently open chat, shows the contact properties window. I should still find out a way to reliably enable and disable the option (and possibly, other options like "Blacklisted emoticons").

Maybe we should set the milestone for this to KMess 2.1... But I still think it's important enough to include this. Will keep this ticket posted on any updates.

Okay, this is what's going to happen (probably):

Somebody's going to make all contact properties into a real menu in the contact frame (feel free to accept this bug if you want to do it), then that's going to be committed against 2.0. After that, the milestone for this bug is changed to 2.1, and the bug will be closed when stuff for the specific chat you have active now can be added to the ChatWindow. This requires some core changes, so won't be done before 2.1.

I believe this will be the best way to handle this bug report correctly. :-)
